The Findings Symposium is an opportunity for scientists of all ages (middle school, high school, and professional) to come together as a scientific community to share their research and observations about the environment around them. Students create posters with the option to present their work in front of an audience. Most importantly, students get a chance to talk with other students around the region who are also exploring similar phenomena and are excited about doing science.
Educators complete the Symposium Interest Form.
Students observe, investigate, or analyze environmental phenomena. (see GMRI curriculum for more about how to support students)
Students create a poster communicating their scientific observations, analysis, or research findings.
At the Symposium in Portland, Maine, students participate in a poster session and have the option to present their findings to an audience of peers and science professionals.
Important notes:
Professional scientists also share their posters and present their research alongside students.
Students from grades 5-12 attend from all over Maine and New Hampshire
Mileage reimbursements provided.
All printing is completed for students for free and students can take their poster home.
We are still very much in the planning phase, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) will be hosting another in-person student symposium this coming spring. Students, grades 5-12, will come together to share their observations and research alongside professional scientists. We will be updating this site with more details, stay tuned.
